Tando Mohammad Khan is located in the south of the province. It shares its boundaries with district Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Badin and Thatta. By distance, it is 31kms from Hyderabad and 168kms from Karachi.
Its total population is approximately half a million. Sindhi is the major language of the town while Urdu is equally spoken.
There are four big sugar mills of the country located in Tando Mohammad Khan which contribute a big portion of sugar production in Sindh province. 70% of the population is engaged in agriculture which plays a vital role in the socio-economic development of the people. The main crops are Sugarcane, Rice, Wheat and Cotton. Canals are the main source of irrigation water in the district. In total, there are 4 sugar mills , 18 flour mills, 8 rice factories and 80 Ajrak industries.
Tando Mohammad Khan is famous for preparation of the traditional symbol of Sindh known as AJRAK.
Its literacy rate is 53% with 23 high schools, 20 middle/model schools, 956 primary schools, 23 secondary schools, 4 private colleges, 21 private schools, 2 degree colleges, 1 technical institute and 1 vocational institute.
